Over 5 million pilgrims visit Karbala on mid-Shaaban

More than five million pilgrims from Iraq and other countries visited the holy city of Karbala for Mid-Shaaban Eid on Friday, an official said.

AhlulBayt News Agency: More than five million pilgrims from Iraq and other countries visited the holy city of Karbala for Mid-Shaaban Eid on Friday, an official said.

Governor of Karbala Nasif al-Khatabi said in a joint press conference with commanders of police and the Karbala Security Operation, added that the number of vehicles recorded during the mid-Shaaban pilgrimage period, as registered through the traffic transportation system, exceeded 533,000.

He said the security and service plans for the occasion were successfully implemented.

Al-Khatabi noted that the service plan was carried out in the fields of health, transportation and services provided to pilgrims.

The Karbala Provincial Health Department had previously announced the deployment of health teams and the readiness of hospitals in preparation for the Mid-Shaaban pilgrimage ceremony.

The Mid-Shaaban Eid, marking the birth anniversary of Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent), falls on the 15th day of the lunar Hijri month of Shaaban (Friday, February 14, this year).

Shia Muslims all over the world celebrate the auspicious occasion.

A large number of pilgrims visit Imam Hussein (AS) shrine on the days leading to the 15th of Shaaban.
