People of Palestine must decide future of Gaza, not outsiders: Qatar

Qatar, one of the key mediators of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, has said the people of Palestine must decide the future of Gaza, not outsiders.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Qatar, one of the key mediators of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, has said the people of Palestine must decide the future of Gaza, not outsiders.

That is according to the spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs speaking on Tuesday. Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari emphasized that the issue of Gaza is “a Palestinian question,” and not any other country or foreign body.

“From our perspective, this is a Palestinian question on what happens post this conflict.”

When asked about the Israeli regime’s stated objective to eliminate Hamas, al-Ansari said, “It is a Palestinian question on who represents the Palestinians in an official capacity and also the political groups and parties in the political sphere.”

Furthermore, US President Donald Trump has proposed a takeover of the Gaza Strip, under which its 2.4 million inhabitants would be moved to Egypt or Jordan.

He said Washington would “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere. He claimed he could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

Earlier this month, the Israeli regime’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu also suggested that Palestinians could establish their state in Saudi Arabia, dismissing any notion of Palestinian sovereignty.

“The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; they have a lot of land over there,”

The plan to displace the people of Gaza has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community, with Arab states, especially Egypt and Jordan preparing a response.

Both sides of the ceasefire have agreed that the next phase of the negotiations would begin this week, however, Trump and Netanyahu’s comments about the displacement of the people of Gaza have added strains to the fragile agreement.

The idea of a so-called “voluntary migration” of the people of Palestine was first promoted during the Biden administration by far-right Israeli ministers.

On January 15, the Israeli regime, failing to achieve any of its war objectives including the “elimination” of Hamas or the release of captives, was forced to agree to a ceasefire deal with the Palestinian resistance movements.
