Iraqi President Fuad Masum and the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council Ammar al-Hakim on Friday strongly condemned the terrorist operation in Iraq which claimed lives of many innocent pilgrims mostly from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Following the incident, a number of Iraqi Shia and Sunni clerics also condemned the inhuman move.

The Iraqi president in his message called the terrorist attack a 'heinous crime' and said the move will be responded with those having a hand in the terrorist attack to receive due punishment.

The leader of the Islamic Supreme Council Ammar al-Hakim, on his part also strongly condemned the move and believed it indicated that Iraqi fighters have inflicted heavy blows on them in the battlefield.

A truck bomb went off in the Shoumeli village, 120 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, targeting vehicles loaded with passengers most of them Iranians who were returning home from the holy shrines in Iraq after Arbaeen rituals.

Reports so far put the number of the dead at more than 71 with a lot more injured.

Martyrs of the terrorists attacks comprising of nationals from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.
