AhlulBayt News Agency: The holy shrine of Hazrat Zeynab (PBUH) in the suburbs of Damascus was closed due to repeated attacks by unidentified individuals.
Performing prayers at this pilgrimage site has also been suspended to prevent Fitna (sedition) caused by certain individuals.
This decision has been made by high-ranking officials, Baghdad al-Yawm reported.
It is reported that recently, unidentified individuals attempted to create unrest and insecurity at the holy mausoleum.
With the rise of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) elements in Syria, the shrine of Hazrat Zeynab (SA) has faced challenges.
On January 11, the intelligence service of the new Syrian government announced that it had successfully foiled a Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) attempt to plant a bomb in the shrine.
The HTS had earlier removed over 90 military personnel from its multinational brigades from around the shrine in the suburbs of Damascus due to misconduct and an increase in complaints against them.
Despite the extremist approach of the HTS and its history in this regard, after coming to power in Syria, it reportedly handles religious shrines, especially sacred Shia sites, with great caution to avoid any desecration or transgression that might provoke public outrage.
